North Wirral Coastal Defence Scheme

The North Wirral Coastal Defences incorporate a number of breakwaters.

In 1981/82 two rock armour breakwaters were constructed at Leasowe.

In 1984/85 five breakwaters were constructed at New Brighton, some comprising novel precast armoured units.

Allowing a controlled degree of wave activity over the structures prevents the accumulation of mud on the landward side.

Wave absorbing slopes have also been constructed in front of an old vertical seawall.
