Borth Coastal Defence Scheme
In 2011 a £7m coastal defence scheme will be implemented at Borth, Gwynedd.Work commenced in January 2011 and is due to be complete in August 2011. The following changes will be made to the existing coastal defence scheme:
- Construction of a new multi-purpose offshore reef
- Construction of new inshore rock breakwaters
- Construction of new rock groynes
- Beach nourishment

URBANE research on Impact on soft sediment communities
The URBANE team are working with Ceredigion Council, BAM Nuttall and Royal Haskoning to investigate the impact of the new breakwater on beach infaunal communities and monitor recover following construction.
We have collected samples from Borth and two control locations before construction (summer 2010), during construction (autumn/winter2011) and will collect again after construction in summer 2012.
