URBANE research on habitat enhancement
The URBANE team have been working with the UK Environment Agency and coastal engineers (Atkins) to incorporate habitat features into the new sea walls that were constructed at Shaldon, Devon.
This incorporation of surface roughness, pits and water-retaining features has resulted in a greater diversity of organisms occupying the engineered habitats than the adjacent seawall.
